Embedded processors must enter the eight-core era

Embedded processors must enter the eight-core era In addition to desktop fever, server and workstation markets, the Intel Sandy Bridge-EP architecture is also preparing to migrate to embedded devices, with up to eight cores remaining. This will be the first time the x86 architecture embedded processor ushered in the eight cores (Freescale once introduced the Power architecture).

Sandy Bridge-EP has three models on the desktop, there are up to 17 models in the server, and the embedded version is also three, and the server version is named Xeon E5-2600 series, the package interface is naturally still LGA2011.

The most high-end model is the "Xeon E5-2658", eight-core sixteen threads, clocked at 2.1GHz (not yet supported for dynamic acceleration), three-level cache 20MB, support for AEX, TXT and other technologies, thermal design power 95W.

"Xeon E5-2648L" is also an eight-core, sixteen-threaded, three-level cache also has up to 20MB, but the main frequency is reduced to 1.8GHz, thermal design power is therefore reduced to 70W, is a low-power version.

Finally, the "Xeon E5-2620" was changed to six-core twelve threads with a clock speed of 2.0GHz, a three-level cache reduction to 15MB, and a thermal design power consumption of 95W.

In these three embedded models, the Xeon E5-2620 is directly ported to the server version, the name and specifications have not changed, and the other two are the first time to see, it seems to be prepared for embedded .

The Xeon E5-2600 series of embedded processors will also be released in the fourth quarter of this year.
