When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S8 and S8+ initially, it wasn’t exactly groundbreaking news since these devices didn’t support Google’s Daydream VR platform. However, during Google I/O 2017 this past summer, it was announced that both phones would receive an update enabling compatibility with the Daydream ecosystem. T-Mobile’s recent software logs seemed to confirm that this long-awaited upgrade was on its way.
Just a short while ago, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ received another update, this time blocking the ability to remap the Bixby button. Now, T-Mobile has released yet another update, which includes several changes: DIGITS updates, fixes for Qualcomm software microphones, improvements to the Bixby button functionality (possibly related to disabling button remapping), and multi-system enhancements. Among these updates, the “multi-system improvements†caught our attention, particularly since they hinted at support for the Google Daydream VR platform.
Curious about the potential Daydream integration, we at 913VR decided to put this claim to the test. We visited the Google Play Store to check if the Galaxy S8 now supported Daydream VR. To our disappointment, there were no relevant apps available. Furthermore, when attempting to access the Daydream loading page, we encountered an error stating that the device was incompatible. It seems that despite the rumors, the Galaxy S8 isn’t quite ready for the Daydream experience just yet.
As things stand now, it appears that Google’s Daydream VR platform isn’t fully compatible with Samsung’s flagships, the Galaxy S8 and S8+. If you’re keen on using Daydream VR, keep an eye on Samsung’s official announcements for further developments. For more details, you can refer to the source article here: [Link].
Although the initial hype surrounding the Galaxy S8's Daydream capabilities has faded, Samsung fans should remain hopeful that future updates might bring this feature to life. Stay tuned for any new developments in the coming weeks!
