There is still a long way to go before virtual reality (VR) becomes the mainstream of technology. After buying VR helmet manufacturer Oculus on Facebook last year, it marked that virtual reality is no longer a science fiction, and this has opened up crazy experiments.

James Blaha has been plagued by strabismus, and virtual reality has provided him with a potential cure, so he set up a venture capital-backed company on this prospect.
Blaha considered a number of ways to fix his situation, including using two projections to send different photos to his two eyes, helping to enhance the function of poor eyesight. When the Oculus Rift development kit came out, he realized that Oculus' helmet could do what he wanted without the need for many moving parts.

Two years ago, his poor eyesight had a 20/70 eyesight after wearing glasses. (This number means that a person standing 20 feet away to let him see, he can see that the best distance for this person is 70 feet.) In July, his stereoscopic vision increased by 80%. His eyesight was 20/20 after putting on his glasses.

At the University of California, San Francisco, a nine-month trial involving 50-60 people has just been done in one-third. After the trial, people can clearly see the actual effect of See Vividly's software Vivid Vision. (Blaha's strabismus is also a form of amblyopia.)
These results are changing the perspective of ophthalmologists on adult amblyopia. The traditional method of treating amblyopia - covering the eyes with better vision to exercise amblyopia - works better in young children.
Blaha's final idea was to apply See Vividly's software directly to the patient, but the software is still being tested in the US vision treatment clinic equipped with the Oculus Rift development kit. "The main reason is that the current hardware is not for the consumer market. A normal person can not buy it and spend a lot of time to set it up." Test software requirements are Oculus helmet, somatosensory controller (can track the natural movement of the hand), games Controller and high-end desktop computer.
