AUO, Sharp reconciled and signed a patent mutual authorization contract

Taiwan AU Optronics and Japan Sharp's patent litigation formally reached a settlement and signed a patent cross-licensing contract. Each party agreed to authorize each other's specific patents. After the contract is signed, each of the previous lawsuits against the other party will be revoked.

Both AUO and Sharp have invested a large amount of research and development resources in the field of thin film transistor liquid crystal displays, and have achieved advanced display technology and established a strong and broad patent portfolio. Both parties will be able to use this interactive technology to innovate and develop more advanced thin film transistor liquid crystal display technology.

It is understood that Sharp filed a lawsuit in the United States on January 25, 2011, accusing AUO of infringing its LCD patent. Sharp said that the LCD license agreement reached by the two parties in 2006 expired on December 31, 2010. However, it did not agree on the new contract renewal clause, so it decided to resort to the law, Sharp hopes to obtain compensation, and asks the United States to stop importing and selling infringing products.

On March 5, 2011, AUO filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Sharp and its US subsidiary in the Federal District Court of Delaware in the United States and the US District Court for the Central District of California, demanding that Sharp compensate economic losses and stop infringement. . AUO claims that Sharp's infringing products range from small to large LCD monitors, including Sharp Quattron's four primary color LCD TVs.

In its complaint, AU Optronics claimed that Sharp infringed at least the following patents: US Patent Nos. 6,818,967, 7,057,359, 7,125,157, 7,259,526, 7,317,289, and 7,172,331. In the US District Court for the Central District of California, AUO claimed that Sharp infringed at least the following patents: US Patent Nos. 7,771,098, 7,723,728 and 7,101,073.
