Global LED display will face supply shortage in 2010

According to iSuppli, the market regulator, in 2010, the supply of global light-emitting diodes (LEDs) will face a shortage. If the production capacity of LEDs does not increase, then in 2010, the market will end up with a serious shortage of equipment.
In 2009, the total sales of LEDs reached 63 billion, up from 57 billion in 2008.

Panel makers have been investing heavily in LED chip makers or developing their own in-house technology to take advantage of the potential benefits of LED-backlit LCD TVs: differentiation, innovation, low power consumption, and of course, higher revenues.

For brand manufacturers, LED backlighting is clearly a huge opportunity. LEDs also help to differentiate the manufacturer's products from other products on the shelf. This is especially important as the LCD TV market begins to saturate and the ongoing replacement cycle in the US and elsewhere is nearing completion.

Consumer demand and acceptance

In addition to differentiation and environmental considerations, perhaps the biggest driver of LED-backlit LCD TVs comes from consumers. LED-backlit LCD TVs appeal to consumers:

Slim shape.
Improved image quality, including better color saturation power saving and other green attributes

Luminous challenge

While the benefits of LED-backlit LCD TVs are obvious, the challenges are also significant. The cost of LED backlighting is still too high, preventing consumers from accepting it. LED TVs are now much more expensive than standard CCFL LCD TVs. Other challenges include:

Insufficient supply of parts
LED short life heat problem continues to improve compared to traditional CCFL

Adapt to the green trend

However, LEDs have a winning formula: increasingly strict government policies are forcing TV manufacturers to switch to environmentally friendly backlighting to reduce power consumption. Especially in large-size TVs, power consumption is a serious problem.
LED displays are fully compliant with this trend, and in 2010 and beyond, shipments will continue to grow in all regions and all market segments.
