The development of a new technology is bound to be more advanced than the previous technology. The energy-saving advantages of LED backlight are obvious to all, and the life of LED backlight is longer than that of CCFL backlight LCD. But just in the new way of backlighting, can it be far better than the other party in displaying the color and the details of the picture? Does LED as a substitute for CCFL mean higher prices? Answers to such questions can only be known after reading today's comparisons.

In order to ensure the fairness of the comparison, we selected 10 models of CCFL backlight LCD and LED backlight LCD, and they are almost the same positioning models with different sizes as today's reference objects. they are, respectively:

The reason why we choose multiple sizes, TN and wide viewing angle, and the positioning of the products are almost all ordinary and cost-effective products. This is to make the final comparison score closer to reality, and the sample sampling is more convincing. .

In contrast to the project, regardless of product appearance and brand, only compare their full load brightness, contrast, color gamut, highlight detail, shadow detail, power consumption, price. The reason why these items are compared is because they are relatively objective data collection, and they are also the most intuitive to compare the differences in color and feeling.


Analysis from brightness CCFL PK LED no winner

Each LCD monitor is tested by the Luminance Colorimeter BM-7 to obtain the brightness, contrast and color gamut of each LCD:

We divided the 20 LCDs into two camps. The purpose is to find whether the liquid crystal of the same positioning has a qualitative leap or a small increase in the display color after the CCFL is moving toward the LED backlight. Although some of the models are difficult to fully correspond to their positioning, most of them can still reflect the situation. Through the above table, we have learned that CCFL is indistinguishable from LED backlight LCD, and there is no regularity. It can be seen that LED backlight LCD does not necessarily have higher brightness performance.


Analysis of Contrast from CCFL Advantages to LED Backlight


The most intuitive interpretation of contrast is the value of "white to black". CCFL and LED-backlit LCD in contrast performance, at first glance LED LCD contrast is perfect for CCFL backlight, the average difference is nearly 200:1. But Xiao Bian believes that the contrast of the VA screen super 6K+ should be ignored here, even if divided by 10, it will bring an increase of 600 to the average score. From this point of view, although it is difficult to say that the LED backlight is inferior in contrast, it does need to be strengthened. However, some recent new LEDs are okay, and the contrast is mostly more than 1000:1.


The same color gamut range, CCFL and LED backlight are indistinguishable.

The gamut aspect is not the VA screen, but the average value of the contrast contrast on the previous page, the final average value here does not determine the whole. From the numerical analysis, two of the CCFL camps are wide-gamut models. Compared with the average of 76%, the two have a color gamut of >60%, which is an average of 6 percentage points. In terms of the detail reduction ability of the highlights, we divide the gray scale capability of the liquid crystal display into 1-255 levels. The higher the value, the better the detail reduction ability of the liquid crystal display. Intuitive explanations can be seen in the above picture. It can be seen that the more the details of the highlights are colored, the clearer the outline of the mountain is. The worse the details of the highlights, the lack of detail on the part of the screen that displays the near-white image.

Although the difference is not big, and we are not blindly comparing the average value, we still find that LED backlights in this project should be smaller than CCFL backlight LCD.

Dark details LED wins! There is no shortage of gray level 2 powerful models

In terms of the detail reduction ability of the dark part, we divide the gray scale capability of the liquid crystal display into 1-255 levels. The lower the value, the smaller the value, indicating that the liquid crystal display's ability to restore the details in the dark part is even better.

Intuitive explanations are also seen in the above figure. It can be seen that the more the details of the dark parts are colored, the clearer the internal shadows of the contours of the water droplets are seen. The worse the details of the dark part, the lack of detail on the part of the screen that shows the near black picture. In terms of dark details, the lower the value, the better. At first glance, the LED is defeated in the CCFL, but if you remove the extreme value, look at the whole. In the LED backlight camp, there are many powerful models that restore the details of the dark parts to the second-level gray scale. In fact, it is found in daily comparison that as long as the value is within 7, it is already excellent.

After the extreme situation of the LED camp, there are good results. Although the average value is not to force us to be included in the bag, it is because this is only one of the reference items, and it is more representative when combined with the overall view.


Nothing wrong, LED backlight energy saving effect is over

In terms of power consumption, there is no need to compare the win-and-loss ratios, because the biggest advantage of LED backlighting is that it saves energy and energy, but our comparison is to see the gap between them is not big? Indeed, the numerical differences are obvious, but LCD is a display terminal for a desktop platform, and its power consumption is limited. Even if you use a notebook external LCD, the average size is 10 watts different from the positioning LCD, 8 hours a day, but only 0.08 kWh per day. Of course, if Internet cafes or schools or institutions purchase more than 100 units, the necessity of LED energy conservation must be on the agenda.


TN LCD LED is small! Civil wide viewing angle LED is cheaper

In terms of price, since the Great Wall M2510 is a new LCD, the price of the ViewSonic VX2450 in comparison with it is neglected here, so the average value is calculated. We see that in the mid-to-high-end wide viewing angle, the price of CCFL backlight LCD is obviously more expensive, and the ordinary LCD or civilian wide viewing angle, LED is also slightly more expensive than CCFL. Then the newly launched LED+IPS LCD, which costs about 1100 yuan, subverts this law. It can be said that, in the case of TN, most of the LEDs are still more expensive, and the civilian perspective is not necessarily. Especially now, IPS+LED is particularly competitive, and the price is often more affordable.


Power consumption and dark details are slightly stronger LEDs do not improve picture quality

This time, we compared 20 LCDs, which are 10 CCFL backlights and 10 LED backlights. We compared the brightness, contrast, color gamut, highlight detail, shadow detail, power consumption, and price of the display. From the average of each individual item, we have re-converted one by one.

From the perspective of image quality, Xiaobian has a weight of 15% in terms of brightness, contrast, color gamut, highlight detail, and shadow detail. The power consumption problem has been interpreted on the page, so only 5% weight is given. Price is often a priority for users to consider, so it gives a 20% higher weight than the product itself. It should be noted that since the details of the dark part, the power consumption, and the price are as low as possible, the subtraction is used in the middle of the conversion process.

The first four items are calculated using the "average / maximum = X / weight value", and the last three items are added a "1-" at the left end of the equation. The final result shows that the LED is the most prominent compared to the liquid crystal of the CCFL backlight, and it does not occupy any cheapness in other aspects, nor does it have much difference with the CCFL.

Therefore, the LED backlight gives users the feeling that it is not as embarrassing as the advertisements, but LED backlighting is the trend of the times. Therefore, it is understandable to choose an LED without affecting the essence of the image quality. The key point is that the LED backlight is more excellent in terms of the details of the dark part. In other respects, it does not bring any improvement to the image quality, so the consumer's mind is more numerous, and will not be overly influenced by the LED backlight factor. .
