Recently, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors was awarded the Bekutz Foundation for its outstanding contribution to the field of direct green-emitting laser research.
OSRAM is a synthetic green laser supplier to MicroVision (3019) customer MicroVision. MicroVision previously announced that the company has successfully integrated direct green laser samples from two large manufacturers into the prototype of the pico projector.
The industry believes that one of the two direct green laser sample suppliers that Tokman refers to may be the Japanese LED giant Nichia Corporation. Nichia was announced on July 7th and has successfully developed a GaN-based green GaN-based laser diode, which will be delivered in August 2010. Directly emitting green lasers produced by nitriding epitaxial wafers and chip processes can not only achieve hundreds of millions of annual output, but also be filial, lighter and cheaper than the current green lasers on the market.
Osram pointed out that the special beam characteristics of the laser give the laser pico projector an infinite sharp depth and a very high resolution beyond the LED source. The low spectral bandwidth of a semiconductor laser can provide a realistic color display and sharp contrast. For many end applications, the successful development of direct green emission lasers is an important milestone.
