AMD HD5700 series will be renamed HD6700

About AMD's upcoming Radeon HD 6000 series graphics cards, there have been many different opinions in recent years. Even their codenames are "Northern Islands" or "Southern Islands". The latest news from German media is that HD 6700, the mid-end performance grade product in the Radeon HD 6000 series, will actually be the name of the current HD 5700 series.

Based on a leaked internal slide shot, AMD prepared two naming schemes for the HD 6000 series. One of these is a one-to-one upgrade, namely Caicos for HD 6400, Turks for HD 6600/6500, Barts for HD 6700, Cayman for HD 6800, and Antilles for HD 6900.

But the new naming scheme is that the first Barts to be launched is directly named HD 6870/6850. Since Barts is actually an upgraded version of Juniper (Desktop HD 5700 Series/Mobile HD 5800), it is upgraded to the HD 6800 Series. Who will inherit the HD 6700 series below $199?

The answer is to change the name. The original Juniper HD 5770/5750 will be directly renamed to HD 6770/6750. Barts and above GPUs will go up one step at a time, Cayman will become HD 6970/6950, and the dual-core Antilles will only be called HD 6990.

AMD has allegedly confirmed that this new nomenclature has been chosen. As to what form the HD 6700 will appear, whether it is to increase the frequency, increase the function, or directly change its name, I am afraid it will only be known when the product is released.
