Autopilot still not popular Nissan wants to show brainwave control car at CES

Nissan, however, has taken a different approach. In early January 2018, the automaker announced its development of a "Brain-to-Vehicle (B2V) interface," a technology that could significantly improve reaction times and make driving safer. This innovative system uses electroencephalography (EEG) to read and interpret brain signals, allowing the vehicle to anticipate a driver's actions—such as steering or braking—before they are physically executed.

By acting 0.2 to 0.5 seconds faster than a human, the B2V system aims to create a more seamless and intuitive driving experience. Nissan calls this initiative "Nissan Intelligent Transportation." In autonomous mode, the system can also detect signs of driver discomfort and adjust accordingly, or even use augmented reality to modify what the driver sees, enhancing both comfort and safety.

"When most people think about autopilot, they imagine a future where humans give up control of the machine. But B2V does the opposite—it uses human brain signals to make driving more engaging and enjoyable," said Daniele Schillaci, Executive Vice President at Nissan. "With Nissan Intelligent Transportation, we aim to bring more autonomy, electrification, and connectivity to create a better world for people."

Nissan plans to showcase its progress at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas later this month, offering a glimpse into the current state of the technology. While the future of B2V remains uncertain, a Nissan representative told The Verge, "This is still in an early stage and not close to being implemented. In September 2017, researchers successfully connected the human brain to the Internet, turning it into an IoT node.
