Determination of Tin in Copper-Tin Alloy by AA-1800 Atomic Absorption Spectrometry
Keywords: Atomic absorption spectrometer; Tin content in copper-tin alloy; Aesthetic analyzer; AA1800C Abstract: This study presents a method for determining the tin content in copper-tin alloys using flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The sample was digested using a wet digestion method, and the tin concentration was measured using an AA-1800 atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results were compared with those obtained from the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method described in GB/T 5121.10-2008. It was found that both methods yielded consistent results, but the FAAS method is more efficient, simpler, and requires fewer reagents. Copper-tin alloys are widely used in various industries such as shipbuilding, chemical processing, machinery, and instrumentation due to their excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. These alloys are often used in manufacturing components like bearings, springs, gears, and pump bodies. The tin content directly influences the microstructure and performance of the alloy, making accurate determination essential for quality control. Experimental procedures included sample preparation, instrument calibration, and standard addition method for matrix interference correction. The results showed that the method is reliable, reproducible, and suitable for routine analysis in industrial settings.
