PC sales increased 19.2% in the fourth quarter of last year

January 27 news, according to foreign media reports, market research firm Canalys said on Wednesday local time, consumers in the Christmas shopping season have purchased tablet PCs to promote the fourth quarter of last year, global PC sales growth of 19.2%.

Canalys said that Hewlett-Packard and Acer are still the top runners-up in the global PC market. The strong sales of iPad tablet PCs have made Apple the world’s third-largest PC maker, and Dell and Lenovo have ranked fourth and fifth respectively.

Canalys analyst Daryl Chiam said in a statement, “The advent of each new product will often cause a significant change in market share, just as Acer, Samsung, and Asustek benefit from netbooks, and Apple benefits from Tablet PCs. The PC industry has always been this way, and notebooks have increased the PC market share of Toshiba and Compaq."

Market research companies including Gartner and IDC have stated that the growth of PC sales slowed to about 3% at the end of last year, but they excluded tablet PCs from PCs. Daryl Chan said, “Think tablet computers are not PCs. The view is outdated. Tablet PCs with screen sizes of 7 inches and above have very high processing power and a growing number of applications, so tablets can provide a similar experience to netbooks, both for the same customer base."
