Welding joint form classification

There are four main basic forms of welded joints: butt joints, T joints, angle joints and lap joints.

A butt joint is a joint in which the edges of two steel sheets are oppositely arranged and their surfaces are joined in a straight line. This joint can withstand large static and shock loads and is therefore the most common form of joint in welded construction.

A T-joint is a welded joint formed by two members being perpendicular or inclined at an angle to each other. This joint welding operation is difficult, and the ability of the entire joint to withstand loads, particularly the ability to withstand shock loads, is relatively poor. Due to the complex variety of structural components, such joints are also one of the more common forms in welded structures.

The angle joint is a joint that welds two steel plates at right angles or at a certain angle to the top edge of the plate. Angle joints are used not only for angled connections between plates, but also for tube-to-plate or angular connections between pipes.

The lap joint is a joint form in which two steel sheets are stacked and welded at the edges of the stacked ends by plug welding or slot welding. This joint is low in strength and can only be used in less important welded components.

The principle of classification of welded joints is only based on the position of the welded joints in the position of the container rather than the structural form of the welded joint. Therefore, when designing the welded joint form, the welding should be determined by the importance of the container, the design conditions and the welding conditions. structure. Thus, the same type of welded joints may have different welded joint forms under different container conditions.

Formal form of welded steel pressure vessel welded joints: butt joints, T-shaped (cross-shaped) joints, angle joints and lap joints.

Butt joint is the most basic type of joint, its strength can reach the same material, uniform force, important parts such as cylinder and head

The connections are all made with butt joints. When the thickness is small, the groove is not opened. When the thickness exceeds 8 mm, it is necessary to have a groove.
