Analysis on the Status Quo of the Development of China's Electronic Label (RFID) Industry

The development trend of the electronic label industry

In 2010, China's RFID industry entered a growth period, and its market scale grew rapidly. It exceeded 10 billion yuan for the first time, reaching 12.15 billion yuan, an increase of 42.8% over 2009, ranking third in the world after the United States and the United Kingdom.

The development of the radio frequency identification (RFID) industry has benefited from the promotion of the gold card project. The National Gold Card Project, as one of the four start-up projects of China's informatization construction, was launched in 1993 with the application of electronic money bank card. As of 2010, a mature electronic payment system has been established, with a total of 2.4 billion bank cards issued and widely used in 108 countries. At the same time, the application of smart IC card was launched, which promoted the development of e-government and e-commerce. Up to now, 8 billion smart IC cards have been issued.

Since the launch of the gold card project in the past 18 years, from magnetic stripe cards to smart cards to RFID applications, China has embarked on a road of informationization with Chinese characteristics. With the vigorous development of gold card engineering construction and IC card application, RFID technology has been in China's second-generation resident ID card, urban public transportation "one card", electronic license and commodity anti-counterfeiting, special equipment strong inspection, security management, movement Application pilots have been launched in areas such as plant electronic identification and modern logistics management.

Since the National Gold Card Project listed the IoT RFID application pilot as a key task in 2004, the Golden Card Project has launched a new RFID application pilot project every year. The RFID application project of the Internet of Things was funded by the National Development and Reform Commission. In April 2011, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued special measures for the Internet of Things, clearly stipulating that 500 million yuan of special funds should be used each year to support the construction of the Internet of Things.

As the core component of radio frequency identification technology, electronic tags can produce 6 billion per year in China, which can basically meet the needs of future market applications. As the key technology of the Internet of Things, radio frequency identification technology has been developed for nearly 10 years, and the production cost is also declining. Now the cost of each label is about 0.4 yuan.

The electronic label market, which is closely related to the printing industry, has grown by 45%-50% annually for three consecutive years in China. At present, China's electronic label industry ranks third in the world.

Status of electronic label companies

According to the “2016-2020 China Electronic Label (RFID) Industry Investment Analysis and Forecast Report” issued by China Investment Consulting, after years of development, the domestic RFID industry has initially formed the South China region represented by Shenzhen and Shanghai. The three major industrial clusters in the East China region and the North China region represented by Beijing.

The overall distribution of RFID companies

Domestic RFID companies are mainly concentrated in South China, East China and North China. Among them, readers and electronic label companies are most distributed in South China, while system integration enterprises are mainly in East China. From the perspective of urban distribution of RFID enterprises, enterprises are mainly distributed in cities with relatively developed economy and technology such as Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing. Among them, electronic tag and reader companies have the largest number in Shenzhen, while RFID system integration is led by Beijing enterprises.

Half of the RFID tag companies are distributed in South China

There are 521 domestic RFID electronic label companies, including 265 in South China, accounting for 51%, followed by 139 in East China, accounting for 27%, followed by 71 in North China, accounting for 14%. The number of enterprises in the three regions accounted for 92% of the total number of enterprises in the country, and the distribution of industries showed a highly concentrated situation.

RFID electronic label companies are also trending toward first-tier cities such as Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing. The top 10 cities for RFID tag companies are Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, Dongguan, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang, Suzhou and Wuhan. Among them, Shenzhen has the largest number of enterprises with 177 companies, and Guangdong Province is in the electronic label city. Of the 10 cities with the largest distribution, they occupy three seats.

Shenzhen reader companies account for more than one-third

The total number of domestic reader companies is 585. In the regional distribution of RFID readers, the number of enterprises in South China is the largest, accounting for 54% of the total number of enterprises in the country; followed by East China and North China, accounting for 22% in East China and 14% in North China.

From the perspective of urban distribution, similar to the distribution of RFID tag companies, Shenzhen RFID readers accounted for the largest number, accounting for 37%, followed by Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.

Beijing system integration company has the largest number

There are 467 domestic system integration vendors. Unlike RFID readers and electronic tags, East China has the largest proportion of 163 companies, followed by South China and North China with 31% and 24% respectively. The total number of enterprises in the three places accounted for 89%, and the industry showed a highly concentrated situation.

Although the number of enterprises in North China is not as good as that in East China and North China, from the perspective of urban distribution, RFID system integration companies account for the largest number in Beijing, accounting for 19%; followed by Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Chengdu and other places.

Industry support and policy support the development of RFID industry

RFID companies in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing and other places are concentrated and have their own internal factors. In the early development process of RFID, RFID requires a large amount of capital investment and training of technical talents. Similar to the economic and technological development areas such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Shanghai, RFID can provide a good industrial environment for the development of RFID enterprises. Atmosphere.

According to the “2016-2020 China Electronic Label (RFID) Industry Investment Analysis and Forecast Report” issued by China Investment Consulting, from the perspective of the distribution structure of the industry chain, readers and electronic label companies have the largest number of enterprises in Shenzhen. As the most important electronic information product production base in China, Shenzhen has an extremely developed mid-stream and downstream market for electronic information industry, providing a good development environment for the development of RFID electronic tag and reader manufacturing enterprises.

At the same time, many RFID companies represented by Yuanwang Valley in Shenzhen have continuously integrated upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain through mergers and acquisitions among enterprises, enhancing the synergy between enterprises and improving the structure of the industrial chain. Promoted the development of the RFID industry in Shenzhen.

In terms of system integration, the RFID industry is still dominated by government projects. This has made Beijing and its surrounding areas an early area for RFID applications. It can be said that it controls the Beijing market and controls the northern market to a large extent. Therefore, compared with Shenzhen, Beijing's advantage in the RFID industry chain lies in system integration. Compared to RFID tags and readers, system integration is more versatile and technically demanding, resulting in higher added value.

From a policy perspective, the country regards the Internet of Things technology as the driving force for the development of the next generation of information technology, while RFID is the key link in the development of the Internet of Things industry. Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing and other places are early to seize the commanding heights of technological innovation. A number of RFID industry support policies have been introduced.

In April 2010, Shanghai introduced the “Shanghai Action Plan for Promoting the Internet of Things Industry Development” to clearly support the key core technologies of the RFID industry; Shenzhen proposed the “Shenzhen Internet of Things Action Plan” in October 2010, and pointed out that it will promote The research and development of RFID core technology and key equipment; Beijing proposed the “Action Plan for Building Zhongguancun National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone” in June 2010, which mainly mentioned the construction of “Capital City Emergency Management Internet of Things Demonstration Project”.

Although RFID developed late in the country, the RFID industry has rapidly developed in these places through the promotion of local governments.

At the same time, with the demonstration application of RFID in a series of demonstration applications such as ID card, second-generation ID card and World Expo electronic ticket, the recognition of RFID applications in China is getting higher and higher, which will further drive the demand of RFID in various markets. Compared with economically developed regions, such as Anhui Province and Sichuan Province, which have cheaper labor costs, there will be more new enterprises in the future, and the products will be placed in the economically underdeveloped areas such as Central China and Southwest China. Area.
