Li Deyi: Artificial intelligence entrepreneurship can't just look at trends, catch pain points and then go to the sea

Robotics> Robot Network News: On September 23, the 2016 Pujiang Innovation Forum was held in Shanghai. Li Deyi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the chairman of the China Artificial Intelligence Society, visited the Xinhuanet Sikka Symposium and received an exclusive interview with Si Ke. In an exclusive interview, Academician Li Deyi expressed his opinions on hot topics such as artificial intelligence and driverless driving. This article is based on the content of the interview.

Reporter: The theme of this year’s Pujiang Innovation Forum is “Two-wheel Drive: Innovation in Science and Technology and Institutional Innovation”. What do you think is the relationship between technological innovation and institutional innovation? How do these two wheels turn together?

Li Deyi: My practical work tells me that there is an urgent need for technological innovation and institutional innovation. My current main job is smart driving research and development. Some people in the society call it autopilot or driverless. For science and technology workers, it is the use of innovative methods to achieve intelligent driving of the car, to the driving of long-lasting, boring work to the machine to do, we call the machine, or called the machine driving. People can intervene without having to step on the brakes all day long and place their hands on the steering wheel. Technological workers are innovative from a technical perspective. For example, I propose a new thing called "drive the brain" that can be used to silence the driver's driving level and experience in a machine. This "driving brain" has become an important part of machine driving. It is different from radar and camera, but it can replace the driver's work.

In my own practice, if technological innovation is to succeed, it must be accompanied by institutional innovation. For example, if I want to find a place to do experiments now, I need to get permission, or I want to know the specific traffic flow and who is interfering with my car. I urgently hope that government departments and traffic management departments can give scientific research to intelligent driving science. Create the environment. So I saw that Jiading City in Shanghai has become the first smart driving demonstration area in the country and I am very happy to see that all parties are working hard.

The two "wheels" of scientific and technological innovation and institutional innovation must be rolled together, otherwise we will stay behind and we will lag behind the world trend.

Reporter: China is currently a big country in science and technology, but it is not yet a technological power. What are the key issues to solve in order to realize the goals of an innovative country and a world-leading science and technology country?

Li Deyi: Everyone says that science and technology are the primary productive forces. To release the first productive forces, there must be environmental protection. In this sense, institutional innovation is a necessary basic condition for ensuring scientific and technological innovation. I think our government is still very hard, and our country’s leaders have repeatedly mentioned that we must pay attention to artificial intelligence and institutional innovation. This year's G20 meeting is a vivid manifestation.
