Watching movies is truly a joy. It visually and audibly transports us into an entirely new world. However, when we go to a movie theater, we usually just sit in our seats. Even though our minds are free, our bodies aren’t really relaxed. Sometimes I wish I could lie down while watching a movie, allowing both my mind and body to unwind.

To fulfill this dream, I tried a private cinema before. While it offered some of what I wanted, there were still issues. The picture quality wasn't always great, the sound insulation was poor, and the environment didn’t feel as relaxing as expected.
So where can you find the most comfortable setting? Definitely at home. And to enjoy movies at home, a projector with good image and sound quality is essential. Recently, I had the chance to try the New Z4X, and it made my dream of lying down while watching a movie come true—easily and happily.

Now, I want to share my experience with the New Z4X. If you're someone who loves enjoying high-quality audio and video at home, this might be exactly what you're looking for.
**Appearance: Same Formula, Different Feel**
As the name suggests, the New Z4X is an upgraded version of the original Z4X, launched by Extreme Technology Group back in 2015. This new model brings improvements like higher brightness, better lens adjustments, and more. Visually, it follows the same design as the original Z4X, but with subtle refinements that make it feel fresh and modern.

The packaging is simple yet elegant, reflecting the product’s design and featuring the Harman/Kardon branding, which guarantees excellent sound quality.

Even when not in use, the New Z4X looks great. Its sleek, minimalist design makes it a stylish addition to any room, almost like a piece of art.

The white square body features a vinyl-like texture, blending modern tech with a retro vibe. The circular design on the front echoes the control area on the remote, adding a fun touch to the user experience.

What's especially interesting is that the vinyl design isn't just for show. It allows users to switch songs by hovering their hand within 10 cm, and even adjust volume by touching the black plastic surface. This makes the New Z4X not just a projector, but also a powerful sound system.

On the back, you'll find multiple ports including 3.5mm audio, USB 2.0/3.0, two HDMI ports (one with ARC support), and options for headphones or SPDIF coaxial output. These ensure compatibility with most devices and setups.

Placed on a bookshelf, the New Z4X looks very cute and inviting.

The front design is equally impressive. The lens cover opens automatically when powered on, and the holes on the right side serve as acoustic vents, giving it a unique look.

In terms of design, the New Z4X breaks the mold of traditional projectors, making it feel more approachable and enjoyable. Compared to other digital devices, it has a strong home atmosphere rather than a cold, technical look.

——————————————————
One of the standout features of the New Z4X is its brightness of up to 740 ANSI lumens, which is a 27% improvement over the previous model. Brightness is crucial for a clear, vivid image, and the New Z4X delivers on that promise.

After plugging in and turning it on, the performance of the New Z4X is impressive. According to official measurements, the noise level is under 30dB, so it won’t disturb your viewing experience. The only slight noise occurs during startup, but it quickly fades away.

Inside the compact body, there's a power sliding door module that automatically opens when the projector is turned on and closes when it's off. This helps protect the lens from dust and scratches.
The New Z4X also includes an auto-focus feature with a built-in camera, ensuring a sharp image right after startup. Manual focus adjustment is also available via the remote control, making it easy to fine-tune the picture.
Additionally, the New Z4X supports automatic vertical keystone correction of ±40 degrees, and later will support side-shooting mode through a system update. This flexibility means you can place it anywhere in your home without worrying about alignment.

When turned on, the New Z4X projects a bright, clear, and detailed image onto the wall. Even though my wall is sandblasted with uneven textures, it didn’t affect the projection quality, and there were no visual disturbances.

Although the resolution is 1280×800, the image quality is above average. At a normal distance, the picture looks sharp and detailed, and even when looking closely, you can see the fine details.

The brightness of 740 ANSI lumens ensures a clear and natural image. When compared to a Samsung Note 8 screen at maximum brightness, the New Z4X performs well for a home projector.

When playing fast-moving scenes, the motion compensation technology helps reduce blur and jitter, making the action smooth and natural. The New Z4X also supports HDR10 decoding, which enhances color depth and contrast for a more immersive experience.

For content, the New Z4X comes with a rich library, including services like Mango TV, iQiyi, Baidu Music, and DingTalk FM. Many of these are free, and additional content requires a membership subscription.

If online content doesn’t suit your taste, you can easily stream videos, music, and more directly from your phone using the Screen Mirror app or AirPlay. It’s as simple as using a regular smart TV.

**Summary: No Screen TV, Close to the Cinema**
The official website calls the New Z4X a “screenless TV,†and that’s an accurate description. It offers picture quality comparable to a television and operates similarly. It even outperforms many TVs in sound quality. With the right setup, it can give you the feeling of being in a movie theater.
In terms of features, the New Z4X is above average for its price. It includes high brightness, motion compensation, HDR10 support, auto focus, an electric lens cover, and Harman/Kardon audio. The design adds a warm, homey feel while maintaining a sense of technology.
If you’re looking to experience a “screenless TV†for the first time, the New Z4X at 2799 yuan is a great choice. Imagine relaxing on your sofa, taking a bath, and choosing your favorite movie to watch—just like in a cinema. That’s the kind of happiness this projector brings.
